1. Macarena (Tanya's dog) played “BABY GIRL” in the movie. The puppy at the end of the movie (Sugar) was a rescue and was adopted while filming Butterfly Rising.

2. The crew captured a butterfly that flew into frame during the shoot. Rose and Lilah (Tanya and McGhee) tied this butterfly to the rear-view mirror of the vintage truck on their way to New Hope, and the butterfly is seen throughout the movie and remains until...well, don't wanna give away spoilers…go see the movie!

3. Nathan Best played an extra in the Fish Fry scene. Nathan is an original member of the musical group ‘The Ojay's.

4. Butterfly Rising is the first full-length feature ever to be shot entirely on location in Columbus, MS. Columbus is also the birthplace of Tennessee Williams.

5. While filming a dramatic scene, McGhee swiped her hand on a piece of pottery. She yelled “CUT” at the same time her finger swiped a broken pottery bowl; she was, indeed, “CUT!!!” A trip to the hospital and eight stitches later…

Incidentally, this scene was CUT from the movie and later RESTORED!

6. The mostly NY- based crew had no idea what a “chigger” was.

7. Tanya found the vintage truck used in the movie while shopping at a Wal-Mart-- she saw a blue 1955 Chevy pick-up parked at a gas station, tracked down the owner and secured the truck for the movie. Neither Tanya nor McGhee drove a stick shift before the movie started—it was NOT pretty…

8. The role of LAZARUS was cast sight unseen.

9. The name of the guitar used to record Lilah's song, “Go for the Light,” is named ‘Lazarus'. McGhee said: “ I was telling the musician a little bit about the movie. I told him that two women search for the biblical character, Lazurus. He looked up at me, shocked, and said ‘Lazurus is the name of this guitar I'm playing right now. It was in a wreck years ago, and I rebuilt it and 'brought it back from the dead.'
